The Met Gala is right around the corner and all the high end designers, celebrities, and millionaire are finalizing their outfits for the occasion. The Met Gala is one if the biggest fashion events of the year. The gala is the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit and raises money for the Costume Institute of the Met to essentially fund itself. The event is always on the first Monday of May, has a theme, and a it is a black tie event. The events that go on inside the gala once everyone is inside are very secretive the only things known for sure is that there is entertainment every year for example last year the Weeknd performed and that one designer showcases. The part that everyone waits to watch is the entrance up the Met steps and to see what everyone is wearing. Last year the theme was “Manus vs. Machinsit.” Most people wore silver and even looked like cyborgs. One of the most famous duos were Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik matching in futuristic clothing. This year the theme will be dedicated to the showcased designer, Rei Kawakubo. Expect the extravagant because Kawakubo is known for creating interesting shapes with her clothing so people will be dressing avante garde.
Clearly this event is exclusive and expensive, but to what extreme? Each ticket costs $30,000 and each table cost $275,000. Usually brands buy out tables and invite celebrities to sit at them and pay for their ticket. That means usually that celebrity will wear that brand to the Met Gala. Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue and chairwoman of the Met Gala gives out some tickets for free to new designers that are making their way in the industry, but do not have the funds yet to afford a ticket. Make sure you watch coverage of the red carpet this year to see what crazy things happen and what everyone is wearing. One year Donald Trump even proposed to Melania at the Met Gala and there is always the occasional trip and tumble down the stairs. Do not miss it!
