Hope you got super excited on the last post about the Met Gala because this one is dedicated to all things Met Gala 2017. If you did not watch you missed out because my eyes were glued to the TV during the coverage. The main controversy of the night that needs to be discussed is the theme. Why were people not dressed to theme? The theme was avant-garde because the showcasing designer, Rei Kawakubo’s designs are all extravagant and avant-garde. For people who do not know what avant-garde is, it is over the top, out there, weird shapes, and outfits beyond your imagination. This is an amazing opportunity for anyone into fashion to have fun and go all out with their outfits. However, only a select few came dressed in theme. The majority of celebrities came in sleek, form fitting, and simple dresses. Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner were some that did not dress to theme, they looked absolutely amazing, but nothing about their outfits said avant-garde. I expected more from both of them since they are top models and I am usually impressed by what they are wearing. Others that did not follow the theme were Gisele Bundchen, Selena Gomez, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
However, my favorite looks of the night were Rihanna and Katy Perry. Rihanna came in and stole the show. She wore an outfit designed by the showcasing designer, Rei Kawakubo. She embodied the theme and looked gorgeous doing it and unless you live under a rock you saw Rihanna’s outfit already. Katy Perry wore a piece by Maison Margiela Artisanal and a tulle wool coat by John Galliano. It was an eye catching all red look with many layers. Other fashionistas at the Met Gala were Cara Delevigne, Gigi Hadid, Caroline Kennedy, Hailey Baldwin, and Rita Ora. Rihanna seemed to agree that people should have dressed to theme considering she liked an instagram picture that made fun of it. So if my opinion is the same as Rihannas I must be right.
